Bring your well-being back into balance

If you’re concerned about the safety of acupuncture; all of our acupuncturists are fully trained and use only sterilised disposable needles during your treatment. Acupuncture is one of the most popular and well-established forms of complementary medicine in the UK and, at Apple Physiotherapy, we strongly believe in the effectiveness of acupuncture, especially to treat lower back pain and neck problems.

Acupuncture treatment: science or mysticism

Traditionally, acupuncturists believe the treatment regulates the flow of ‘vital energy’, known as ‘Qi’ (pronounced ‘chee’), that circulates through a series of invisible channels in the body, known as meridians.
More conventional theories include triggering the production of ‘feel-good’ chemicals in the brain known as endorphins, blocking pain receptors or stimulating the nervous system by means of acupuncture needles.

We recommend acupuncture for the treatment of:

  • Low back pain
  • Upper and mid-abdominal pain
  • Shoulder injuries
  • Adverse reactions to cancer treatments
  • Low blood pressure
  • Muscle pain
  • Neck sprains and aches

Different styles of acupuncture

We also offer two different styles of acupuncture, focusing on the methods of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and the more modern Five Element Theory. TCM looks to identify the cause of the disease, and treat its root, thereby balancing the person as a whole. Five Element Theory looks to balance a person with a focus on an emotional level. There is increasing research to suggest that acupuncture can help with many ailments, in particular arthritis, fertility, headaches, and pain relief.

Conditions seen in the clinic include, but are not limited to:

  • Depression and Anxiety
  • Fertility
  • Insomnia
  • Headaches and Migraines
  • Stress

More information on this can be found at the British Acupuncture Council website.

We also offer a new Cosmetic Acupuncture service. An excellent alternative to Botox, and totally natural. Cosmetic Acupuncture works by stimulating elastin production collagen, creating a smoother and fresher appearance on the face.
